Cefrax, an antibiotic, is a 3rd-generation cephalosporin like ceftriaxone and cefotaxime. Cefrax is highly stable in the presence of β-lactamase enzymes. As a result, many organisms resistant to penicillins and some cephalosporins due to the presence of β-lactamases may be susceptible to Cefrax. The antibacterial effect of Cefrax results from inhibition of mucopeptide synthesis in the bacterial cell wall.
